The pocket is to hold cutlery and a matching napkin comes with each mat.

Mat: 9x13 inches. A little larger than an A4 size paper, these are made smaller than a regular placemat keeping in mind that a child may get limited desk space in a school environment.

Napkin : 8 inch square

Roll up closure, makes it easy in wash cycles and while in use.
